You have to remember that special attacks are not stopped by spin, or dodge or any of the automatic defenses. One good boneshatter will more than likely make an arial (19str) drop the spear. +Str gear is very important for an arial spear warrior.

Remember that all special attacks, like boneshatter, kotegaeshi, underhand, etc. are not based on the defensive skills of the person you are doing them to.
