Not being able to recall has it's price. Not using magic *should* have it's price. That's what you get for being able to heal, thirst, poncho, deathblow, resist, and anything else they get. Don't whine to me that they can't recall and get to a healer so naturally they should be able to act as their own healer. *boggle*
Like I said, it took me 4 of 5 tries to blind him, and I was almost dead by this time, and I had 9 ranks on him. I was wraithformed, aura-d, and stone skined. Blinding is the only way I can keep him from redirecting to me, pulling me away, driving me, etc. I don't see the great imbalance if he had to flee blind with a few scratches and have a convulsing necro chasing him down the eastern road, can you?
