I agree, and like many people here, have tried to come up with a workable way to implement them... the problems that arise, however, are going to lead to massive abuse in the mud such as...
1) the ability to kill creatures without them coming after you.. cabal guardians anybody? Notrack mobs with very nice gear?
2) The ability to take advantage of one-way exits in killing people, kind of unfair.
3) 1 room does not equal 10 feet, like in a d&d universe. 1 room can be 3 feet across, or it can be 5 miles or more.
4) With ranged weapons comes the necessity of ranged spells. Call lightning is already a major annoyance, can you imagine if everybody in the mud could do something like this, and it had no timer?
5) One can stand outside a protected area and pelt somebody inside a city with arrows. This would cause all sorts of arbiter problems...
There's a million more problems I'm sure others can think of. Ranged weapons, while cool in theory, would not work on CF because it would be an abolute nightmare to implement so it was fair and still worthwhile. Now, if you were starting a new mud from scratch (hint hint, POS mud), I think you could work in ranged weapons and make them an integrated part of the environment much easier.
Not an Immortal, well, not now anyway.
