I've seen both sword and mace specs done quite well with a cloud.
The nice thing about the mace spec is that it can be used with a shield
without losing many of the skills. Drum's the only one and you can
just remove the shield and throw in a drum. There are plenty of good
maces that aren't too hard to get. Axes work for clouds also, but I
can't think of any names off hand of characters who used them. As a giant
you can deal immense amounts of damage in a hurry against most classes.
From what I've seen most giants don't seem to worry too much about defense
instead opting to end the fight quickly with a lot of damaging moves.
