In Reply to: So why don't you just write in plain english (ie psuedocode) how ranged weapons work, since we don't all play avendar posted by Graham on March 31, 2000 at 10:50:21:
For ranged spells, you just type:
"cast [spell] [target] [direction]"
and if you omit the direction, it'll try to auto-find your target within the range of the spell.
For spears and daggers, you type:
"throw [weapon] [target] [direction]" -
same auto-targeting as above.
For bows, you wield the bow, and must have arrows in your quiver.
You then type:
shoot "[target] [short/medium/long/barbed][direction] [aimed/normal/quick]"
If any of the values are omitted, the game defaults to medium arrows, auto-finding the direction, and a normal shot. Aimed increases time and increases accuracy, whereas quick reduces both. If you have a special arrow, an enchanted arrow, you can type
"nock [arrow-type]"
and then you omit the arrow-type when you're shooting.
make sense?

It's useful in strategic combat, and also useful if someone is sitting by a big mob for protection.
