About the different Sects and such in Empire and Battle.:

I know there are different groupings for people of these two cabals...
Empire has Arcane, Blade, Black, and Divine.
Battle has Berserker, Scout, and Defender.

My question is whether or not people can get into a Sect or Group of thier own choice (with exception of the current defense within Battle.)
For Example, could I, as a transmuter, join the Blade Sect of Empire? Could an Assassin join Arcane? I realize these may be a bit odd in themselves, but in my case, it's what I'd choose.
How is this choice made when one applies? Delegated by "The Boss", or chosen independantly?
