The roles I have made until now contained past, present, goals and knowledge the char didn't have. Not all of them had it all, but I belive it helps imagen the char, also you can 'fit' your role in the furture. Say something like this :
As Graluf left his home to join the Arbiters his home was unprotected. Later it was completly destroyed by the foul Sylvans.
Then when Graluf gets kicked from Arbiters the role could be fitted to :
After getting fired from the arbiters for sleeping at duty, he decided to return home, only to find it all anihilated. This disaster refilled him with sense of duty and he chose to re-apply for a position as Arbiter.
I like this, as it grants you char a posibility to evolve and grow.
