**My opinion would be yes. Some of the neatest roles I've read lately were done in 3rd person and explained things about the character from an impartial, narator voice. In doing this it could explain relevant circumstances before the char's birth, experiences the char hasn't remembered, personality flaws the char himself would never admit to, circumstances surrounding an event that the char wasn't able/suppose to know but influenced the char's life...etc. I've also seen some roles done very well in 1st person...so don't panic if you have, or want to do one in first person. I think it depends on what you want to say in your role and how you want it explained. There's an enormous amount of room for creativity in these things.
