I'd suggest A human or gnome. Humans will rank fast and have good hp/mana. You'll also be ranked above most warriors at your rank b/c of the lack of an xp penalty. Gnomes get a 250 penalty, but can get up to 6 pracs per rank, and practice spells/skills to 71% with one prace, just like humans with 23 in. Good hp/mana, but vulnerable to blunt attacks. 250 is a decent xp penalty, but they've got to be neutral as well. Depending upon your role, human could probably fit just about any type.
