As a sailor, I am often away for long periods. I find my characters tend to be autodeleted between weeks 4 and 5. Sometimes, CF accepts the character's name and password and then doesn't go any further: I can keep entering the password, but if I enter anything else (including just [enter]) then it says 'wrong password'. Other times the name is free for use again.

Have you checked the IP? Traceroute give any indication of the problem? swbell seems to be a big stopping point when I have troubles.
