No. There's many, many things you can do to screw an assassin. Frankly, if you get assassinated you deserve to die. And if you think it needs a lag to balance it or something, you've obviously never played one much.

And the ass-flee thing is erroneous and overrated. If an assassin tries that, and you let him, you deserve to die. There's sooo many things you could do at that juncture to fuck up the assassin (admittedly, this is class dependent) or at least render his tactic useless (any class can do that with ease).

And, no, I've been playing non-assassin/thief/duergar chars for a few months now. I'm not biased, and I also haven't been assassinated.
