You can find most skills and short descriptions of them on the CF Page http://www.carrionfields.org or in game by typing help and then any skill, spell, song, or supplication name after it. In answer to your question, you should learn both. The roundhouse is a wild looping punch, and a kick is...well it's a kick. Both come in handy while fighting.
