If played correctly, there would be no reason to shun that character. A Battle IMM can see that you've practiced it, and may look in your role to make sure you have incorporated that, and that your actions have reflected it. For example, if at level 11, your character writes in his role all about how he has learned why magic is evil, it would not be wise to practice call lightning at level 17. It would also not be wise to have a potion of return hidden away in the ol' backpack. Etc.

Actually, it's been done before, and incorporated into characters smoothly. With the role command, it even got less tricky to pull off.
