When you get tripped, for example, you have one enough time for one action before the person who just tripped you can trip you again. If you spend that one action trying to move (say you were spamming down eastern road), you're screwed. If you spend that one action waving your hands in the air before you cast your magic missile at your opponent, your magic missile probably won't get off until after you're tripped, two rounds later. So yes, emoting in combat is a bad thing. However, if you think those emotes make you an elite roleplayer and more respected as a character, then by all means use them. Just don't expect to win too many pk's.
