Writing one IC note describing your intentions and background is always a good idea. Do it right away, but don't write 12.

As far as the time zone thing, try to log in on weekends at various times. Failing that, seek out other followers and interact with them- getting a strong recommendation might help convince the IMM to make an effort to find you.
