Look at any of the stories from Greek mythology. The gods are always using/abusing mortals in one way or another.

While it may seem unfair they are the ones that make the rules. It basically comes down to a matter of theology... By what set of rules do we define our gods? Aren't they the ones who made the rules? If they want to change them on a whim then so be it, such is life.
