Ok, I once had the same question... it was explained to me like this:
Your touches are considered to be spells, every time you touch with say a frostfinger its like your casting something like a magic missle. (So buy touching someone you work on the spell of frostfingers.)
THEREFORE, hit and damn have no affect on your spells. Your best bet in practicing (my opinion) is to get yerself some strange rings, shamans robe... and whatever +mana stuff ya can and sit in the inn spamming c 'frost fingers' or the like.
I may be wrong, and often am. Feel free to correct me anyone.
