It's a bit out of character to explain what a piece of armor does. More often than not it means someone will say: "It's 2/2 hit/dam 11 AC across the board, +5hps"
Granted, not everyone will, and its not all that hard at higher ranks to just observe how your score changes. Still, I don't care to risk having people spew stuff at me like that. I just either don't ask, have a mage of my own to find out at some point, or just look on the web. And ask friends.
I'm not saying my way is good or what's best for the game, but I don't care to hear the ooc crap, so I just avoid it altogether.

PS Lore, unless you are a bard or a svirf/gnome, is so annoying to practice that I consider it useless. Luckily rangers APs and thieves can use the ID scrolls. Mostly warriors, assassins, and ragers just have to make do. Ok, I'm done now.
