Well, part of me is happy you deleted, but the rest is just disappointed. You being in the realms always made life more challenging for me, and challenge is what makes this MUD fun. I hope your next character works out better for you.

As far as Battle is concerned, this is part of the continuing cycle of power that goes on with the Cabals. Battle has been a major power for a long time; now the pendulum swing goes in another direction. I agree with several of your comments above concerning the Village, and will add this: while you are in power, you tend to take your Cabal powers more for granted, as if they were permanent "skills". Once the Cabal begins to deteriorate, however slightly, and you have to fight without you powers, it becomes exponentially harder. A lot of people can't take the slide, and quit, delete, or just stop playing as much. This serves to accelerate the deterioration of the Cabal. It is really, really hard to be one of the people who continue to play regularly during this downturn. That leads to more deletions, etc.

The other thing to look at is how a Cabal recovers from the pit of gloom and despair they end up in when this happens. Well, what I have seen over the years is the "better" players who like to play underdogs start to roll up characters for the weaker or underpopulated Cabals. They start to make an impact on the game, at least fighting back and/or holding their own against their Cabal's enemies. Other players see this and start to join, numbers swell, etc.; the pendulum completes its swing.

This is just my opinion, an observation if you will. Take it or leave it.
