Actually, in a spate of boredom, I was just thinking about this yesterday. A dagger that weighs 3 pounds would be unbelievably unwieldy. Can you imagine a dagger that weighs 20 pounds (abjatha) and isn't a spear? Damned tough to imagine. The average weight seems to be about 5, which is really heavy for a dagger, and is probably more based in game mechanics than reality, I suppose.
