For defenses, you need a few mobs that get many attacks each round...or lots of mobs that only get a few attacks each round. finding these places not already full of practicers these days can be quite a challenge. I advise trying to find areas little traveled (although these days almost no area can be considered very "out of the way" anymore)

for weapons, you need mobs that hit only once or twice a round, and can take a beating...or many weaker mobs.

Defense practice can count as weapon practice, but if your defences aren't perfected, you may have some trouble with large numbers of mobs usually used to practice weapons.
