The Paladin Code is one of the most important things in a paladin's life, probably more important even than the religion that he has chosen to embrace. I say this because no matter what religion he chooses, he has to follow the code.

Code, Religion, Cabal...in that order is my guess.

So to say that the only thing that is guiding them astray from being allowed into Sylvan is the Code is like saying the only thing that is keeping this corpse from breathing is its lack of lungs.
