There is (or atleast was) a pretty good section on spheres on the official CF web page. Spheres embody just what they are. For example, destruction...the sphere is the power of destruction. Different religions can incorporate this power of destruction, and still have unique religions. You could have a religion that focuses on destroying the darkness and you could have a religion that focuses on destroying the light. Atleast, that's how it makes sense in my head.
