Makes you completely invisible for those that are more than 5 (not sure if it is exactly 5) levels below you (mobs, like special guards don't see you as well if their level isn't high enough). You do not lose invis in battle, you show up only in for the round when you make attacks. Trying to make yourself visible will make you visible only for a very short time while you have the improved invis affect.

You could fugure almost everything I wrote here if you searched the log board looking for invoker fights
