In Reply to: I could make a pretty good argument for conjurers being -the- power class at hero. If Peroleth had stuck around, there would have been crying. (n/t) posted by Proud Blade(VIP) on May 31, 2000 at 10:00:44:
...if you are who I think you are, I never killed you. I just made you flee a couple of times in a situation where I couldn't really have killed you unless you did something very unwise. One of a conjurer's two biggest weaknesses is their inability to keep people there, much like pre-revamp paladins who were fighting evils. A wrath-spamming storm paladin could send most people packing, but actually finishing the kill was next to impossible unless they did something dumb, or you were very, very clever about it. I probably "won" well over 100 fights in my brief lifespan, but I probably only had 50 or 60 kills. I was by far deadliest when I had a Blade like Simka or Yilake at my side to keep people in place while I did my thing. Given those circumstances, yes, it was rather ugly. But I hate PKing in groups, even in Empire.
It's also worth noting that Peroleth was, well... far from my first conjurer. I developed something of an addiction to Imperial human conjurers, all of whom were ill-fated, starting with Ahzesh. Imperial conjurers are one of the most subtle combos in CF right now, solely because of evoke. I never, ever lashed. In 99% of situations, there's a better wand or scroll or even pill to use (and magic missile is underrated).
As far as comparing conjurers to liches... a lich is a hundred times deadlier, and twice as hard to kill in the hands of a skilled player.
Anyway, back to my break from CF.
