It's kind of hard to believe that you've been playing CF for five-six years (since it's been up) and have these questions, but I'd like to help if I can:
1. Rank by yourself if you have to while you're looking for a group. It's not hard to do at low ranks.
2. Maintain a sense of perspective. It takes an invoker a good 200 hours to get all his shields. Do you think it will take you 200 hours to reach spectre? Not likely. Even with the slowness it takes you to rank.
3. Realize you are playing the last visibly abusive class in CF. You will PK like a fiend and require not a great amount of skill to do it. Needing a permagroup or a good 150-200 hours (worst case) to spectre is not a bad trade off.
4. C'mon. An EVISCERATES once a round that you can only maintain for 20 rounds at most? You would *really* want a groupmate like that? That, and, most decent warriors are ranking/practicing by themselves at least until 20. It's reasonable to not want to rank with a necro.
5. Well, that's enough. I just want to add/highlight that necromancers really are crazy powerful PKing wise with more than a few cheap tricks relative to the other classes. Boredom while ranking is the only tradeoff. (well, there is another tradeoff - mainly that when you log in with your necro you're committing to two/three hours of playing.) Accept that and pkill until the Imms change the class balance.
