I've played several healers and a Sylvan healer specifically. They've always been good aligned, and, now that I think about it, always elves. Obviously, I like the elf healer combination. I think, from a roleplaying perspective, it suits the typical elven character. From a game-play perspective, the substantial mana is ideal for a healer. Turn undead, while much fun, is a bearable sacrifice. Sanctify room, in my opinion, is not.
If you really want to play the w-elf role, by all means go with it. Put the role before other things and you'll enjoy the character more. The reason you've gotten so many different suggestions below is because the healer class is very generous, it tolerates much while still allowing you to stay alive.
I've noticed successful storm or dwarf healers, though the ones I've seen deck themselves out in +dam gear, something I think is just *wrong* for a healer, RP-wise. But to each his own. Enjoy.
