To keep it in math terms:

N = normal damage
X = deathblow bonus
P = preperation modifier (haste/parry/dodge)

Warrior A didn't prepare and goes to fight a rager:
he will take

N*X = (Z*X) + (Y*X)

damage, where Z = riposte damage and Y = normal hits

Warrior B prepares well, so his P is 0.5

he will take

(Z*X) + (Y*X)*0.5

while against any other warrior rager he will get

(N*X) * 0.5

damage

and

(Z*X) + (Y*X)*0.5 > (N*X) * 0.5

so riposte deathblows make a difference for swordspecs compared to other
rager warriors.

The point is that dbs on non-parryable skills makes preperations useless for warrior types, since what you usually aim for with them is not getting hit as often, to avoid getting DBed.
