I do not know anything of how to connect to IRC through Dio's java applet on his page. I know only that it sucks compared to normal irc clients (no offense, Dioxide).
If you are using MS Windows, go to www.mirc.com. If you are using UNIX, go to www.bitchx.com. Download an irc client, install it and connect to irc.dal.net, then join #carrionfields and/or #cf.
