> Probably a good idea...although I like the idea of teasers...don't have everything fleshed out at 1, as far as role. Maybe something introductory...then at every rank, flesh it out more.
> > Step 2: RANK yourself up to around 6, this shows your a little more serious than if you just try to get empowered as a rank one.
> I wouldn't wait until 6. Why 6? Why not 7. Hell, I would at 2 or 3, but not in asking for empowerment necessarily. Perhaps asking for guidance, etc. Your character probably wouldn't quite understand empowerment yet.
> > Step 3: PRAY here for the first time. Go to the shrine... don't expect to be answered. Just let your god know your around. Pray like you want an audience though, ya just might get it. This is a good time to write a note to them. Say who you are, give a BRIEF background. Tell them you'll tell them the rest when you speak. I like to include that I'm patient in these notes.
> I also wouldn't go to the shrine right away. Too cookie cutter. Hell, they see somebody waltzing in at rank 1 (or 6) and they know they're dealing with somebody who's been through the hoops before. Try something original...if you want to try for the sphere lust empowerment, go to the whorehouse (if it's still around). Whatever. Pray there the first time, the explore your way to the shrine.

> The rest of this isn't bad advice, but I don't think people will have to follow it word for word. As a good friend of mine, Ernie Cocktoasen, once said* "Be the ball."

> To me, getting this character is all about those three words. That, and a $100 check in your target imm's bank account. But that's the next chapter "Bribing, Swindling, Extorting and Blackmailing Your Way to Infamy". In any case, I sort of see the first rank or two as preparation...roles, descs, a bit of learning so as not to look too incompetent. As soon as that first pray is off, though, the game is on. I have a feeling that once you pray, you get not just one, but several pair of eyes swooping down on you. Everything is recorded. Big brother is watching. As you rank, and you deem it appropriate as you are about to slay some creature, interact with it first. Whether it's 'real' or not. More than once I've had mobs I'm about to kill say something to me. It's very important to keep your ball-hat on while ranking, no matter how tedious. Watch for anything unusual. Seems pretty obvious to me, but I've been with groups where mobs have tried to interact with us, and they're "Come on, weez gonna rank or what." and then, of course, "U done yet?" Classic, just classic.

> So I made the mistake of rank 5 times, pray, rank 5 times, pray, yell, scream, pray "Screw you bastards, I play me a warrior and kick everyone's ass" and delete delete. Done all that. Do it completely differently.

> Nepenthe said something about Zen, and that's really important for an empoweree. There's no way in hell some drow healer, at rank 1, is going to know everything about his role, destiny, god, shrine, and next 10 kills. I think the 'newborn babe' concept is great. Some Gods might like the idea of everything being thought out, but I would think that a lot of this is about 'growing'. Cause you're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, you can be a whupass killer too.

> Anyway, that's my ramble. I've played every empowered class (and got empowered), and I won't say it's easy, but it's definitely worth it. And patience is definitely a virtue, if not a necessity.
