Cloud Rangers and Felar Assassins are both very tough combinations. From around level 33 on, I was never without equipment as Takashimi. Without any cabal powers, I could kill the red dragon while naked.

Having said that, I wouldn't have wanted to fight Dural in a forest. Mastering skills is not something I delay ranking for, and I found the skill progression satisfactorly (though definitely slow). As a cloud ranger, I was able to rank in places like the battlefield and Kiadana-rah solo.
