Typically, in almost any fantasy genre, dwarves are a rugged type, preferring metal and stone to trees and critters. Take Tolkein's dwarves, for instance. How many of them do you think would have wanted to run about in the forest communing with nature? Hard to imagine, hmm? Cloud giants on the other hand already live somewhat in harmony with nature. By their very nature, dwarves are more of the stone and earth whereas the cloud giants of Thera are of the skies.
As for the fairer sex? BAH! Who can understand them anyway... *mutter*
