Probably for the same reason the myrrdraal in shadar logoth (and maybe aridhol, I'm not sure) aren't affected by it. Some mobs are immune to most bard songs, but I'm guessing the imms decided making them totally immune to everything a bard can do would, well, screw bards...hence piercing sweet music being a piercing type of damage rather than...uh...whatever bard songs are...mental? Musical? Whatever.
