From my understanding or what I believe is that fire and ice depending on how well you sing your song the person believes/resists the mental damage. That's why it doesn't work on ghosts or undead because they can't think. With wild west wind you sing with wind at your command with the power of your words. I think with piercing sweet music you do damage to their hearing. Perhaps. I don't know I can't the help files right now on the songs so don't flame me to harsh. It's just how I always thought of the songs.
