In 95+% of all instances when CF is down or unavailable for more than an hour, one of the following two things are the culprit:

1) Some bad mojo is going down with the internet connectivity between the rest of the world and CF. This can take the form of router problems, our line being down, acts of god or nature, and other fun.

2) Something catastrophic has happened requiring direct intervention by a human being with physical access to the machine CF runs on. That amounts to roughly one (1) of us. As soon as that person becomes aware there is a problem, they begin fixing it. Sometime after that would be when the rest of us (generally) find out what was going on.

Therefore, your chance of getting an answer in these vast majority of cases is virtually nil (and not because we're jerks).

While I'm on the subject, the Especially Futile Gesture award has to go to those who flood emails to imms@cf demanding answers whenever (1) or (2) occurs, because they also prevent email being read via aforementioned machine.
