I was the only black. No offense to, say, Arvaxus, who I liked alot, but I was on when times were really, really bad, with five or more gangbanging ragers roaming around, and mixed it up with them. With donations, I know the only one close to me was Ignesu (and that was because he was an imperial for months before I even rolled Akivasha). I know who else was around striving to turn Empire around into power, and kicking ass when they could, and those people all managed the sect positions (Aradan, Simka, Ambros, Peroleth).

Now, to be honest, I really, really didn't want to be the Dreadlord, but there was literally no one else around that could do it, and I didn't want to be made anathema for not doing it, either, so it was the lesser of two evils. As a char, I had a two line role and desc for Akivasha, I mainly wanted to "just see if necros were as overpowered as they seemed," and the role got to be impossible (I suddenly changed him from a PKing sphere Death to a "BLACK POWER party member" because I couldn't figure out any other way to do it, and the character was inherently flawed from the start.) It was also my first evil character, too, and I couldn't help being nice or risking my life to save groupmembers, and everytime I did that I recognized it and disliked the role and how I was playing the character even more :P

As a player, I was playing four hours a night, every night, and sitting in my traffic meetings at work thinking about imperial politics. I didn't have the time for it.

So, to sum up?

1. In hindsight, I know Akvisha as a choice may have looked random, and I regret having to quit after a couple of weeks with the position, but I tried to do it openly and as soon as I realized I had to do it. (and I trief *hard* to make the Black indepent, prideful, and powerful.
2. It was an admittedly flawed character from the start (although no one but someone reading my role and laughing at its utter stupidity would know that - except for Kellyn, who killed me as I was trying to save a Blade :P)
3. Akivasha was making more than a decent contribution as a PKer and just being in Thera turning things around, period. The only Black doing so at the time.

So, your lesson in this? If you want to be a decent Sect leader, play at least four hours a day, no matter how bad the odds and kick ass when the opportunity presents itself (and don't let anyone know all the times you die :).)
