Technically if you wanted to, you could get empowered and then find the black box...but as Shokai said, 'it cheapens the whole makeup of the class'(and you would most likely immediately become unempowered).
However, a while ago, I was told about a low-ranked paladin that followed Pico and was changed to Evil Chaotic(I guess the Paladin guildmasters would always attack him on site), but they did not rank that far.
