It's not just the level distribution of the skills, it's that thieves seem a little too warrior-ish for my tastes. They also have the least unique skills of any class, and are my vote for best "one-trick-pony" tactics. There's no diversity- all thieves learn the same skills. You fight many opponents one of two ways, depending on whether or not they can see hidden. But the level thing really cheeses me. Without naming names, there are several thieves who sit right at 30, with no incentive to rank up. There's one who's been at 30 since around January, if memory serves correctly. Thieves are very powerful at that level, and they know that they get less powerful from there, since ranking just gives them more hit points. Sure, certain specials may do more damage as they gain more ranks, but their foes will have more hit points and more access to protective magics. While scrolls can make things interesting (as I started to explore with Ingvar), thieves otherwise really don't improve over the last 21 ranks. That being said, all the revamps I've seen have made the class in question a lot more interesting. Here's hoping thieves are due.
