Two things that likely have nothing to do with it.
1. Is your str maxed and were you wearing +str gear prior to your demise?

2. There are times as a weakling elf the following happens. I am wielding two weapons. I am disarmed. The weapon on the ground "Does not compliment" my offhand weapon. (jeweled dagger). I retry the "wield command and it works the second time without fail. It however, is now the offhand weapon. Bug? Fumble moment?

If neither describes your trevails, then I will now go fly a kite.
