1) Play one and only one character at a time. Don't even have a newbie around. This will help you focus on your role, remove temptation to log on the character with the better PK range, and let you really hone in on the fine points of your skills and spells.

2) Handicap yourself. Pick something difficult for every character's role, to keep your skills sharp. No one remembers stock characters.

3) Read a book. I tend to read helpful non-fiction (philosophy, biography, etc.), but you can do equally well by reading good fiction. It doesn't have to be from the fantasy genre- sometimes you just see something you like in a character.

4) Develop quirks and minor traits. Being able to point out small details about behavior really helps take a role to the next level. When I make a new character, I write down 5 or 10 little things that I might incorporate as the time arises. One of Ingvar's gimmicks was his overuse of rhetorical questions, as an example.

5) Never, ever, ever, break role. Not over grouptell, tell, or any channel.

6) Watch and learn. Pay attention to others. Try to spark conversations with characters who you have heard are "good RPers".

7) Spend the extra time to develop a really good role/desc.

8) Build in some interaction with an IMM or two.

9) Don't delete unless you've truly lost all interest. Characters take time to grow on you, and you really get better as you play them. Stick it out, even if you're down a couple con.

That what I've got off the top of my head. I'll post more as I think of it.

> First off I don't consider myself a BAD roleplayer, I've had a number of empowered characters one tattoed and have been in every cabal except entropy so I know basically how a character should act according to their role. My problem is that I never seem to get very far into the roleplay, it doesn't come naturally to me, sometimes what I'm saying feels dumb and I feel like an idiot, occasionally I'll "connect" with my character and I'll do alright but most of the time every single sentence is an effort whereas some people seem to be able to pull it off unconsiously. Does anyone else have this same problem?
