I'm not the best roleplayer in the MUD either, but I am far better than I was when I began. What I've found to be the best way to create a solid foundation for your character is to actually try to visualize him/her. Throw in a few scars perhaps, or some sort of flaw, or not... Be sure to have some sort of short explanation ready if the scar is too horrible. After you have a basic story written, try to relate to your character... How would they interact with others & etc.? Are they confident, shy, pushy, defensive, brash, rude? You could even think about people you know if you want to, and borrow a couple of their social quirks... Have fun with it, be creative. It is my belief that as long as you are trying as hard as you possibly can to roleplay and you are not breaking character or somehow ruining the experience of anyone else, there's nothing wrong with your roleplaying. PS: Do not feed the animals.
