Your problem from fiends is what is called "bad matchup syndrome":

You played an arbiter, with a 17 int. Bards are going to be a big problem for you, since you can't attack them in town if they aren't wanted... you either stand around and try to resist the first sleep song long enough to make 'em wanted, or you work from your guild. With a 17 int, fiends are tough to beat once you get to that point.

Your roleplay may have made working from your guild not possible. That's your problem. You never saw Ingvar posting "Damnit! It's too hard to find groups in Thera." Most good roles are built around drawbacks. Arbiters are vulnerable to any class with a nasty "opening move" for this reason.

Also, you didn't take advantage of certain items which you could have acquired. Have you figured out what types of things help you resist bard songs?

Group with a bard. Try to fiend people... it's easier in a group of two. See what they do to save their ass.

Imbrogno complaining about bards being too powerful is like an drow assassin complaining about giant warriors wielding two mithril maces. Every character should have other characters that they are better or worse at fighting. Being a storm giant has a lot of pluses. Vuln_mental and mediocre INT are things you have to deal with.

> I got fiended when there were criminal bards and only then. You can't hide when you're an arbiter, there's a job to do.

> Summon them into an enclosed room you say. I did a few times, and got fiended during summon lag once for my trouble.
