Except I would say "It's just a game, so why cheat?" If I was playing a friendly game of basketball, would I lie about the score? > The rules exist to equalize the playing field, to the extent that it can be done. Since I play it for fun, and not to "win", I really don't feel an incentive to cheat. I'm sure I could if I wanted. I just don't want to. I was asking why someone else would, aside from being a bit overcompetitive. (Some people don't accept losing very well, even in a text-based pretend fight. So they cheat, to avoid that "terrifying" scenario.) What reward would cheating bring? > > My point was it's retarded to infer somebody might be an immoral person if they use ooc info on the GAME carrionfields... > I wouldn't say that. I would say that "would cheat at CF" and "immoral in general" probably have some weak correlation. I'm sure there are some people who fit one and not the other. But in general, I wouldn't say cheating at casual games reflects well on your personal character. > Obviously, cheating occurs in degrees. There are a lot of grey areas. I'm not advocating the permanent banning of everyone who unintentionally commits a minor infraction. But there should be penalties for people who cross the line, and they should be a sufficient deterrent to keep people from wanting to cross that line. > > I have no problem with cheaters being punished. I appreciate their work quite a bit as well but don't make them sound so magnanimous about it... they do this for enjoyment like the rest of us... they aren't slaving about just for our entertainment. This forum seems to be quite the place for extremes... Immortals aren't always right, Immortals aren't always wrong, in fact they're rarely wrong... but never rule out the possibility. I suppose that's another string, i'll be quiet now. > As far as the IMMs, I agree that both players and IMMs benefit from the work they do, and that is why the IMMs do it. They're not martyrs. But they certainly do a lot of non-fun things that I don't do to keep the game running. One of the little ways I can acknowledge this is to not aggravate them by making them waste time keeping me within the rules. Again, they're not so hard to follow.
