40 is a really bad level for a Rager to be. I thought "hm... I'll stay at 40, master my specs, and then hero...." After dying 3-4 times within less than a week at 40, I ranked up, and did most of my practice at level 48 or so. As a Rager, you NEVER want to fight a mage who has levels on you. Period.
