Wow cool! That's the first time I've ever heard any actually explain that. I play D&D quite frequently, and have for quite some time (long before I started on CF) so I'm rather familiar with this aspect. However, I've had to try to explain this so many times, only to have people go, "Huh?" that I just gave it up. As for the hit/damroll, that's a bit easier (I think). Damroll is pretty much cut and dry. A damroll of 45 means that when you land a hit, and roll for damage, automatically add 45 to that roll. Hitroll is slightly more complicated. Because I'm not sure how the weapon skill % works into it, exactly, with cf, I'll leave that part out (imms please fill in or correct anything incorrect).

When you attempt to hit someone, you make a roll, based on your THACO (To Hit Armor Class 0). THACO is based on class and level (at least in D&D). Naturally, a warrior is going to get a better THACO than any other class of the same level. In D&D, the lower your THACO, the better. Let's say that the person you're aiming at has an AC of 0, and you have a THACO of 10 (10 is probably not a good number for CF because everything is multiplied on CF compared to D&D, but it'll serve (I think)). That means that when you make you're roll to hit, you have to roll a 10 or higher. If your THACO is 10, and the person's ac is higher (worse) say... AC 5, then you subtract their AC from your THACO, and that's the number you have to roll or better (10 THACO - 5 AC = must roll 5 or higher). The Hitroll value value is simply added onto your roll to hit. Say you have THACO 10, and they have AC 5, and you also have an item which increases your hitroll by 3. You make a roll, and roll a 2; not good enough to hit them, but then add in the hiroll 3, and you have a 5 which just hits. If the person has a -AC, then add their AC to your THACO instead of subtracting it. THACO 10, AC -5, need to roll a 15 or better to hit them. Keep in mind, none of this is taking into account dodge, shield block, parry, or any other defensive skill, attacker's weapon skill %, defender's weapon skill % in the weapon the attacker is using (I believe that has to do with parrying so I don't know why I'm even mentioning it), enhanced damage, any possible special effects of special skills (warrior specs, thief circle stabs, backstabs, knife, etc...). I don't know how CF works those, so I'm just leaving them out. This deals solely with initiate combat, then sit there and swing normally at each other. This is a tiny fucking window to type in, and I can't see all I've typed at once, so I'm not going to go back and review to make sure I got everything right. If something is wrong, someone point it out (not talking about spelling or grammar).
