Empire is very easy to get into and deals with all the other cabals so you will learn alot.. even though you are likely to get the boot as you say for making mistakes.

Its been difficult to get into the majority of cabals, empire is easy (relatively when theres visible sect leaders etc) because they rarely care what you know.

As a newbie, if you dont mind throwing away a character (though I dont think being made an anathema should be the end of you).. empire is an excellent way of learning alot.
