In Reply to: Geese, is the carrion code really so chaotic? Would it be that hard to just tell a player what is up and give them something else to reward their crippled life. n/t posted by Someone on July 25, 2000 at 17:02:33:

Disclaimer: I'm calm, but I still believe in telling people who deserve to be beaten to death why they deserve it in hopes they self-correct.

It's a sad fact of the Internet that anonymity emboldens many to new heights of making asses of themselves.

Let's think about this for a minute. What did I do today for a living? Wrote code. What do most of the CF coders do for a living? Guess.

How much do you think I feel like doing more of that when I get home? Right. When I do, is the code I write, supposedly for fun, as good as I produce professionally? Ha!

Still, I'm doing what I do professionally for free. Have a lawyer friend? Ask them to do some legal work for you free for a few hours. Will they do it? Probably. How about if you keep asking them for 5-10 hours a week, every week? Think you'll be friends with them for long? How about if you asked for a lot more than that? How about if you asked for more, got it, and bitched about how it wasn't good enough all the time?

How dare you? If my boss made that much light of the work I get paid for I'd take a swing at them, and I'm not the kind of guy who goes around picking fights.

You think you can (and would) do a better job as a mud admin than the staff we have does? Maybe you can. I encourage you to try, either here or by starting your own mud. If you don't want to do that, well. . .

Children are known to complain that whatever their parents have chosen to provide them with isn't good enough. You rarely see adults get away with it. Try acting like one even if you aren't. No country I know of has passed laws entitling their citizens to play free muds. This isn't something you're owed. You don't deserve it. It's something you enjoy at the sufferance of those who labor to produce and maintain it, because you lack either the motivation or ability to do so yourself, and nothing more.
