I think you're making a leap from friends that mud to friends that have permagroups. I too learned about CF from a friend. In fact, it seems like only yesterday that I sat next to Elmaster in ye olde computer lab panicing because I was starving and punching him in the arm every 20 seconds because I needed to know something. I even remember making it to rank 4 in the lumberyard and having him look over at me and say, "Wow, we're really getting somewhere now." and he was completly serious. I don't think any immortal ever has busted anyone for permagrouping in the lumberyard until rank 5. Now, read that last sentence again. We are not out to get you. We are not out to destroy friendships. We are obviously not out to shoot the mud in the foot and not accepting to new players. I had friends in college that mudded all the time. However, we never sat down and rolled a group. Once you learn the basic ropes of the mud why do you want a permagroup? It seems to me the attraction of the game is to lose yourself in another reality, meet new characters, and define your own. As far as why we bust permagroups like SMUG and even less severe ones? My answer to that is that allowing them to run rampant in the game cheapens the game for everyone. Believe it or not we're actually her to maximize fun. Imagine how hard it would be to learn the mud alone if everyone was walking around in power groups of three.
