I'm not sure why you said felars would be a waste, they are actually the ones best suited to being a dagger spec when you look just at the obvious facts.

#1) They have the best hp gain of the dodging classes, which is a must for all the damage you take on a missed dagger spec attack. Compare their 23 con to an arial, elf, drow, etc. You're talking about an extra 100-200 hp by the time you are a hero.

#2) Their dex is great, only worse than drow and arial, and without the annoying mithril/iron vulns that the elves have to endure.

#3) You do not need to wield anything in your offhand to be effective with dagger. Felars got this covered, plus get additional damage just for being them. In fact, one of their few special attacks requires them to wield only one dagger I believe. Also, concealed works about the same whether you have one dagger or two.

#4) Intelligence/learning skills is not a factor if you intend to play a character seriously. Any seasoned vet of the warrior class will have a fair idea about how to make the most of their practicing.

and, #5), felars who lose their weapon somehow can actually still do a heck of a lot of damage to an opponent. Even better if they can back up dagger spec with hth for just such an instance.

Now, there are other factors that go into being an effective dagger specialist, such as size, whether you are sneaking, etc. but with the smaller sizes and sneaking races, you are giving up much in the way of vulns or dodging ability.

And, as an aside, the fire vuln shouldn't be a realistic worry for any felar who is worth his weight in beans. Plenty of ways around that. _Any_ dagger spec needs to be prepared to take _alot_ of damage when they are fighting, especially against mobs. That just comes with the territory. Also, don't expect to solo alot of mobs, unless you are willing to switch to non-spec weapons/attacks or to a shield from time to time.

Not a flame, this just happens to be a subject I have thought about in great depth and have always wanted do myself if I ever had time. My only dagger spec was an elf, and this was when the warrior specs were brand new, so I missed out on all the cool features available to them now.
