I am pretty sure I could tank a full set of normal zombies without a hitch, and he would die faster since the vampiric's wouldn't heal him as much. negative resist/6 shields/black shroud/yada yada should help. Istendil was smart enough to know that vamping you wouldn't do diddly, so he'd have vamped someone else...you can't blind him, so you can't stop him from directing spells elsewhere. As The Arcane said before, long ago....what killed Istendil in that fight was the earthbind. Nothing else. His hoard there wouldn't have changed it much. It wasn't the amount of damage y'all layed on him, it was that you kept him there long enough to chip away at the stone. Without the earthbind, you don't do that. Now, having said that...would an army of zombies stopped you all from tripping/lashing him to death? Maybe, but probably not. Eventually, the charmies would have (via fleeing warriors and assassins and such) come upon either you with all your protections or the armadillo. At that point, they are rendered useless, and Istendil still gets tripped to death. One problem with all of that is you have to assume/hope that a fleeing thief/assassin/warrior that just took big damage from the hoard of zombies would return once the hoard was on others...and via Imperial philosophy, I'm not sure that would have happened.
